LEO J. CASTIGLIONI, JR. SCHOLARSHIP
Instructions for Graduating Seniors
This
scholarship/award is dedicated to the founder of Cranston League for Cranston’s
Future (CLCF). It has been established
to celebrate his life and to honor representative Cranston High School
graduating seniors who emulate the community service, civic dedication and
selflessness of character that was Leo J. Castiglioni, Jr.
Leo
founded CLCF as a youth sports organization in 1953. He remained an active volunteer and member of the Board of
Directors for the next fifty years until his death on July 11, 2002. Tens of thousands of children from Cranston
have benefited from his dedication and service to the community. Leo J. Castiglioni, Jr. is one of the most
honored citizens in Cranston’s history.
Attached
you will find the criteria and procedures for this scholarship/award. Any student graduating from Cranston High
School East or Cranston High School West may apply. The scholarship/award is not limited to those graduating seniors
who intend to go on to post-graduation formal education. A senior choosing to enter the world of work
may also apply, the award then to be used for the purchase of tools for his/her
chosen trade.
You
are to complete the self-identifying information on the front of the
application form and the entire back of the form. The identification of your sex is necessary because the selection
committee is required to select at least one male and one female in the intended
group of four awards. There is no specification
as to which school either male or female must be from and, therefore, it does
not affect you as an individual.
Identification of “Coach or Activity Advisor” is required so that the
committee may independently verify information. Please list personnel you believe the committee may be able to
contact. A letter of verification from
each of the Community Service Organizations must accompany the Application or
may be sent directly to the Committee.
You
are not limited to the space provided on the form in any of the stated
categories. Please submit additional
information that you feel will be helpful to the committee. When you have completed all of the Applicant
Information you are to deliver the application to your Director of Guidance and
Assistant Principal. School personnel
will complete the requested information on the front of the form and will then
send the completed application to the CLCF Selection Committee prior to May 1
of your graduating year. Please confirm
with the Director of Guidance that the completed application has been forwarded
to the Committee. The award will be
announced at the school’s Awards Ceremony or at Graduation. (See reverse side for more information)
