NEWS RELEASE - RIAHA Announces AA program for the ‘10-’11 season

2/18/10 - RIAHA is excited to announce a new AA program to begin next season for Mite Majors through Bantam Majors. This initiative marks an important second step in RIAHA’s objective to keep Rhode Island kids playing hockey in Rhode Island at all levels. There will be two teams at each age level, one comprised of players from the North and the other with players from the South. The North region will include: Burrillville, Woonsocket, NRI, Pawtucket and Providence and the South will include: CLCF, West Bay, Edgewood, Warwick, SRI and Newport.

All players on these AA teams will be required to play on a RIAHA state team as well. There will be a 15 – 20 game schedule including two tournaments. In order to eliminate game conflicts, all AA games will be scheduled on Sunday afternoons, a time during which State league games will not be scheduled. The approximate cost is expected to be between $300 and $350. Information regarding registration will be posted soon and try-outs will be held in April, immediately after our AAA team is selected. All interested players in RIAHA are encouraged to tryout.

This announcement is another example of a new era in RIAHA –  one that leverages a much stronger collective commitment by all of the Member Associations with a shared vision of keeping hockey in Rhode Island as strong as possible at all levels of play.

We hope you share our enthusiasm and as more information becomes available it will be passed along.

USA Hockey Announces H1N1 Recommendations

10/30/09 - COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - USA Hockey, with the counsel of Dr. Michael Stuart, its chief medical officer, today issued the following information regarding the H1N1 infection, including recommendations to reduce the likelihood of spreading the infection.

USA Hockey recommends:

- Providing individual water bottles for players and not sharing water bottles.
- Regularly washing hands.
- Cleaning workout gear for each practice/competition.
- Keeping gloves on during the traditional handshake with opponents.

Individuals with influenza may develop typical signs or symptoms, including: fever (102 degrees fahrenheit or greater), cough, muscle aches, runny nose, headache or sore threat, with the potential for more serious complications, including pneumonia.

This year's influenza virus strain has particularly affected children and young adults. Transmission of the influenza virus may occur from the day before the onset of symptoms and during the five-to-seven days that the symptoms are present.

Infected individuals should stay home until signs and symptoms have resolved, with no fever present for at least 24 hours. The 24-hour no-fever timeline should be achieved naturally, without the aid of fever reducing medications,
